General Summary Performs any combination of following tasks, such as excavating, lays route of pipes in trenches, install erosion control around pipes Essential Job Accountabilities • Excavate trenches to desired or required depth by hand or using excavator • Grades and levels base of trench, using tamping machine and hand tools • Set up dewatering equipment to keep water level below bottom of trench.
• Lays out route of pipe, following written instructions or blueprints • Lays pipes in trenches and welds, cements, glues, or otherwise connects pieces together.
• Set pipe structures to line and grade.
• Backfills pipe and structures with earth or other materials with required compaction.
• Checks slope, using carpenter's level or lasers • Maintain line and grade of the installed pipe to meet specification requirements.
• Install erosion control around completed pipe and structures.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job • Experience in installing bulkheads in pipe and structures, including the mixing and use of mortar.
• Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources • Attend training and have a full understanding of trenching requirements and regulations.
• Follow all OSHA and Company safety policies and procedures, including attendance at safety meetings • Maintain a safe and clean work environment Education • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience Work Experience • Appropriate training and experience required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Workers should be able to: • Follow specific directions • Perform a variety of duties which may often change • Work within standards of accuracy • Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure • Evaluate information using measurable standards.
Physically, workers must be able to: • Stand or walk for long periods • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects • Frequently lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment • Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, and see (naturally or with correction).
