22/hour, commensurate with experience Job Summary The HVAC/R Technician is a Journey-level position which performs troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) equipment and components within a variety of campus buildings and student residential housing.
This individual is responsible for completing tasks and projects related to the systematic inspection, detection, and correction of equipment failures before they develop into major defects.
This position works independently within the HVAC/R department and performs moderate to complex tasks without immediate supervision.
This position will be expected to interact with students, faculty and staff in a professional, service minded manner that enhances work effectiveness for the HVAC team.
Core Duties Review and respond to work orders received through the TMA work order system via UP provided iPhone including any necessary follow-up and customer service.
Follow scheduled preventive maintenance plans i.
e.
change filters, replace fan belts and pulleys, Voltage, Amperage and RPM readings, temperature/ pressure readings, grease bearings, clean equipment and mechanical spaces etc.
Interpret verbal and written guidance into work duties Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC/R equipment and components, including but not limited to walk-in coolers/ freezers, air handlers, package RTU’s, mini-splits, VRF systems, HRV’s, water source heat pumps, chillers, steam and hot water boilers, chilled-beams, residential furnace and a/c’s, exhaust fans, and air compressors Provide support and assistance for HVAC/R team Act as Physical Plant weekly on-call staff person based upon department needs (typically once per 10 weeks) Respond to facilities emergencies on campus and residential properties and provide timely resolution to problems.
Other duties as relevant to the duties of the position or as assigned by supervisor or designee.
Education & Experience Required: 5 years of journey level experience in the HVAC/R industry preforming extensive troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs Required: 5 years ‘experience using hand and power tools i.
e.
reciprocating saw, drill, pipe Preferred: Experience with steam and hydronic boiler maintenance and repair.
Preferred: Associate Degree and/or trade certifications Preferred: Experience in the construction trades and experience having worked with a general contractor Preferred: 3 years’ experience working with DDC building-control systems (Siemens, Alerton, etc.
) Preferred: 2 years’ experience soldering/ brazing Certifications & Licenses Required: Oregon driver’s license.
Required: EPA Refrigeration Certification (Section 608) Preferred: Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) certification Preferred: OHSA 30 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to follow ASHRAE and equipment manufactures best practices for troubleshooting and repair of HVAC/R equipment.
Ability to properly evacuate and charge a refrigeration system using the appropriate tools and equipment Ability to safely operate construction/ maintenance related hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment i.
e.
fork lift, aerial work platforms (scissor and boom lifts) Knowledge, skills, and abilities relating to different types of refrigeration systems.
Knowledge of current technologies in HVAC/R systems and equipment Ability to read and understand blueprints and specification documents Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
Awareness of industry related safety and health practices Strong customer service, interpersonal skills, and conduct self professionally and respectfully with campus community and visitors is paramount.
Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, backgrounds, groups, policies, and processes.
Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to effectively communicate with co workers Superior attention to detail.

Perform desk-based computer tasks; use fine manipulation Occasionally attend seminars/ trainings off campus Ability safely drive a motor vehicle.
Working Conditions Hours of employment: will require overtime and on-call duties, flexible hours (including early mornings, evenings, nights, overnight hours, weekends, and holidays), and response with little to no notice to situations involving emergencies or urgency.
Work related stress: work duties involving tight deadlines, significant matters, or multiple projects.
Environment: while performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibrating tools and equipment; may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, blood borne pathogens, and toxic/ caustic chemicals; may be exposed to high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and risk of electrical shock.
