Job Description MISSION: To utilize assembly experience, innate artistic skill and exercise attention to detail in the development and application of techniques effective to the fabrication of complex and/or intricate parts.
Routinely works on prototype, developmental, or parts requiring special attention and concentration because they are especially fragile, complex, or costly.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNT ABILITIES: A.
Assembly Objective: to fabricate an operational assembly to meet customer design.
To develop and apply fabrication skills and techniques to routinely produce complex parts in a timely manner that facilitates production flow.
Typical Activities: Collects, assesses and applies needed verbal, written and blueprint information from engineering.
Communicates with engineering and/or supervision regarding initial fabrication strategies or modification of existing techniques to insure and improve product quality.
Fabricates, assembles, or modifies patterns and gating components by means of torch, hot pencils, utility waxes and hand tools; conforms to engineering tolerances and Makes modifications to gating systems on prototype and production molds in conjunction with engineering.
Coordinates information on progress on parts with work partners, if any.
When needed, documents assembly development or modification activities with written instructions, photos, measurements and sketches; completes code sheets.
Inspects all components and assemblies during and after the assembly process.
B.
Interaction Objective: to facilitate the production of complex parts and introduction of new parts into routine production.
Typical Activities: Interact with supervision, engineering, mold operations, investing and inspection to receive instructions, resolve problems and share information.
Communicate with wax supervisors and co-workers regarding techniques, methods and specific actions which facilitate the assembly of prototype and complex parts.
Identifies in self and others specific techniques or approaches to working on complex parts which enhance completion of part within specifications.
Works to emphasize special skills or traits which facilitate production of quality products.
Shares information and assists in the training of others particularly focusing on adapting new parts to production processes and smoothly integrating complex, prototype parts to production process.
Preliminary to the production of prototype parts, exchanges information with engineering, molding and investing to identify potential problems, develop solutions and otherwise prepare for the manufacture of new parts.
C.
Support and Coordination.
Objective: to keep supervisor, planning and engineering informed on progress; to provide information when requested for machining fixtures and frames for new/modified parts.
Typical Activities: Keeps supervisors, planning and engineering informed of development progress and completion.
Assists production wax assembly in transition of parts from development to production assembly and from low to high volume production quantity.
Fabricates dimensionally accurate gate models from which molding dies are patterned.
Provides fixturing and framing information and recommendations to engineering; develops hand tool requirements and sketches.
Works with technicians to complete production tech cards.
May be assigned to train new assemblers.
May be assigned to training new engineers in PCC gating procedures.
D.
Safety Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
Typical Activities: Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
Safely operates all equipment and tools.
Identifies and reports safety problems.
Performs other duties as directed.
TRAINING: Training is provided on the job.
Blueprint reading course must be completed.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience in wax assembly procedures, including development/modification of gating systems as demonstrated by performance of all duties during training or 'back-up' opportunities.
Thorough working knowledge of assembly techniques, methods, tools, materials, fixturing and construction; working knowledge of molten metal.
Ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions, and to perform arithmetic calculations.
Demonstrated ability in artistic applications, ability to concentrate intensively on work requiring a high level of detail or demonstrated comprehension of spatial relationships and cause and effect.
Such specialized skills demonstrated through previous work experience, hobbies, or other applications.
Demonstrated high degree of manual dexterity.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, to work independently and as a team member, and to be organized.
Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in conditions which may include exposure to noise, fumes, crowding, awkward physical positions for extended periods of time, abrasions, cuts and chemicals.
