Metal Finisher I We are currently recruiting for a Metal Finisher I to join the Benchmade Knife Company team.
The Metal Finisher I is responsible for the operations to grind, refine, polish and deburr surfaces of metal, wood, or synthetic knife parts in the form of castings, machined parts and blanks.
Uses belt sanders, manual blast equipment, abrasive wheels, buffing wheels, presses, files, drill presses.
Visually inspects and feels surfaces to identify defects.
Replaces worn belts, wheels, etc.
using wrenches.
Sets up and operates drill press to perform machining operations such as drilling, reaming, countersinking or tapping of holes in metal parts according to process instructions.
Reads PCI's and job travelers for product/operation specifications.
Uses calipers, micrometers and fixed gauges to ensure quality specifications are met.
Responsibilities: Job Responsibilities: May use belt sanders, blasting machines, abrasive wheels, buffing wheels, presses, files, drill presses, manual mills, or HEFS (High Energy Finishing System).
Choose correct fixtures, change out and dial in quickly Visually inspects and feels surfaces to identify defects.
Replaces worn belts, wheels, etc.
using wrenches.
Reads process control instructions and job travelers for product/operation specifications Perform repetitive hand finishing operations using various powered and hand equipment.
Perform visual inspection of parts ensuring cosmetic requirements are met.
Inspect manufactured parts to a PCI and identify dimensional quality issues.
Consistently meet production, quality, and attendance requirements.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work area.
Complete all necessary documentation.
Possess multitasking skills by keeping several aspects of finish Dept.
running simultaneously.
This includes back sanding for HEFS operator while maintaining vibe requirements.
Qualifications: Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and less than a year of experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
Strong general math skills Able to understand, communicate, and follow written/oral instructions Quality-conscious, with an eye for fine detail and pride in high quality workmanship as well as one who enjoys a collaborative team environment Experience in a fast-paced production environment preferred, particularly in the cutlery and/or small parts manufacturing.
Experience with inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicator, refractometer) preferred.
Strong attention to detail and good hand-eye coordination.
Able to work in a manufacturing environment (exposure to noise, coolants, abrasives, heat, cold, adhesives, and automated and manual machinery) wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, closed shoes, arm sleeves and designated PPE gloves as required.
