For Sale: Martin Marty Robbins 5-18, Custom Artist Edition in near mint condition.
Martin made a total of 473 of these between 2009 and 2011; this one is #52 (2009).
This Size 5 [Terz] Martin boasts a solid Adirondack spruce top and a solid mahogany back and sides; the top has some nice "Bear Claw" marks.
The ebony fingerboard has dot inlays with a small map of Texas on the 5th fret and a star at the 7th fret.
The label is signed by Marty’s son, Ronny Robbins.
A "Terz" guitar is a small (mini parlor) guitar tuned up a minor third higher than normal tuning so the open strings are G-C-F-A#-D-G, however it can be played in normal tuning; Terz is German for third.
The neck is shorter and narrower, in the case of the Martin 5-18 the neck has a 21.
4” scale and 1.
70" nut width.
Marty Robbins was not the only guy that played one.
Johnny Cash regularly played a Martin 5-18 at his home and on the road as a songwriting instrument.
Michael Hedges played a 5-18, as does Neil Young and Sting.
These make great travel instruments, 'couch' guitar, or a (very expensive) child's guitar.
It's roughly the size of a Baritone ukulele.
