The Flying Tomato is up for sale! Bought this '87 Syncro ~3yrs ago from a gentleman in Idaho who had owned it for a while (10yrs? I'd have to look at carfax).
Been a great rig and have done many upgrades to it.
Selling b/c I just bought a newer diesel truck for work and don't need 2 large 4wd vehicles.
This van is highly reliable and I would take it anywhere.
Been on many adventures with it.
The van is in great shape, no rust on body, highly reliable (has brand newly swapped Tiico engine & transmission from FAS), new tires, AWD, aux battery, etc.
See details below.
- New paint (~1yr old)
- New Hanook Dynapro AT2 tires (~2yrs old)
- new (~1yr old) fully rebuilt 2LR Tiico Long Block engine from FAS (Foreign Auto Supply).
Also upgraded the fuel rail system and engine cradle ($8,277)
- The engine was professionally installed by Eion's Automotive in Seattle.
Eion's also put in a newly rebuilt transmission, among many other things, such as: replaced alternator, upgraded exhaust, muffler, new water pump, new thermostat, new fuel pump, new clutch and flywheel, stainless steel cooling tube kit, new radiator, etc.
(total job was ~$15k).
Note - I went with a Tiico rebuild b/c the engine that was in it when I bought it was a Tiico and I like the simplicity of a Tiico and think FAS's 2LR version is pretty dialed-in IMO.
- New upholstery (seats, panels, and trunk mat) from Sewfine
- New starter
- New carpet
- New batteries
- New front speakers (haven't messed w/ the back speakers)
Areas of improvement :
- AC unit works but needs to be recharged w/ refrigerant
- Paint around the gutters is pealing a bit… I think this area is notoriously challenging to properly prep/paint
- Sliding cabinets need to be built out
- Odometer stopped working when I got the engine rebuilt ~1yr ago.
.
.
I have put <10k mi on new engine, so should be ~230k miles on body.
There are shops that can fix the odometer, I just haven't had time to get it done.
Asking $35k OBO.
Need to sell!
